“The TV Process” takes you behind the scenes of TV production, and explains how programmes get made – from the first twinkle in a producer’s eye, to the last sparkle in the champagne glass at the BAFTAs, during the gracious acceptance speech. It’s aimed at anyone who works with TV people, and who’s ever wondered what a gaffer and a best boy do; why Unit Managers say “That’s a wrap” at the end of a shoot; why you are much more likely to get your documentary commissioned if you call it a “next generation, interactive, reality entertainment show”; and of course which one’s Ant and which one’s Dec… The course is well illustrated with video clips and out-takes, and is also an excellent introduction for anyone considering a career in production, as it gives an overview of the entire process, including a detailed look at pre- and post- production. The tutor is Patrick Titley, a very experienced producer/director. His credits include Countdown, Emmerdale and Hospital Live; and he’s worked at all levels, from camera assistant to senior executive – so he knows the industry from top to bottom.
