This course is for new researchers and runners, as well as graduates looking for their first job in television. It covers the key skills you need to become a great television researcher. In one day, you will learn:

* How to spot a good television story
* How to find the people and information you need to tell your story
* How to write scripts and research briefs
* How to set up a successful shoot: from recces and call sheets, to understanding the necessary paperwork
* Shooting and editing techniques: how to handle an interview; plus the importance of notes and timecode
* What you need to know about copyright, music and location agreements
* The importance of impartiality and fair dealing, and what Ofcom and the BBC have to say on the subject.

The course is taught by Susan Walls, who has worked as a researcher, writer and producer in factual television for over 20 years. Her work has won several awards, including a BAFTA and a New York Film Festival Gold Medal.
