ONE DAY FACTUAL TV RESEARCH, SCRIPTING AND ETHICS

This
course is for new researchers and runners, as well as graduates looking for their
first job in television. It covers the key skills you need to become a great television
researcher. In one day, you will learn:
* How to spot a good television story
* How
to find the people and information you need to tell your story
* How to write scripts
and research briefs
* How to set up a successful shoot: from recces and call sheets,
to understanding the necessary paperwork
* Shooting and editing techniques: how to
handle an interview; plus the importance of notes and timecode
* What you need to
know about copyright, music and location agreements
* The importance of impartiality
and fair dealing, and what Ofcom and the BBC have to say on the subject.
The course
is taught by Susan Walls, who has worked as a researcher, writer and producer in
factual television for over 20 years. Her work has won several awards, including
a BAFTA and a New York Film Festival Gold Medal.
