Preparing For Industry Standard TV Production

Delivered by Bafta - winning producer Susan Walls, author of sell out book "How to Get a Job in TV". Includes effective research skills, hands-on session researching under time pressure, use of sources, fact checking, scripting, interview techniques, structuring, ethics, copyright, risk assessment. Students will acquire a professional level of technical knowledge, skills and understanding through this one day course, adapted from an existing session for new entrants to the TV industry.

 

Understanding Television

How does an idea become a TV programme? With RTS winning executive producer Barbara Govan. Learn from a professional working in the TV industry how an idea becomes an award winning TV documentary. Who makes the decisions, who and what really decides what appears on our TV screens, who is in control of what the audience sees ?

Interactive role playing session to understand the structure of an independent production and TV company. Go inside the story of a network commission, view the taster tape, be the commissioning editor who decides whether or not this show gets the green light and find out how much everyone gets paid!

Students will understand the thought processes that go into idea generation, the structure of the TV business, how programmes are commissioned, what work opportunities and roles there are within a TV production, from freelance positions to jobs with larger broadcasters.
